Grading

Student work is graded as follows:

  • Homework and Class work will receive a completion grade of 4 points.
    • 1 point for completing all of the work
    • 1 point for thoroughness of work
    • 1 point for class details (heading, date, placement in ISN, etc.)
    • 1 point for being on time (because developing good habits count.)
  • Projects, labs, experiments and written assignments will be graded based on a rubric.
    • All late work will receive 75% of points earned.
  • Quizzes and Tests points are at face value.
Rational:

Students in my classroom will be participating in the "flipped Model" of learning where the are learning concepts outside the classroom through reading, viewing multi-media presentations and interactive lessons.  Classroom time will be devoted to clarifying concepts, application activities, interactive learning/labs that are designed to develop deeper understanding critical thinking, and assessments.

The grading will reflect the results of the actual student learning and not their ability complete all of their work.  With that said however, each day begins with a "quick quiz" that will determine whether or not students understood the materials they were to learn prior to the day's classroom activities enabling me to quickly review or re-teach any concepts identified as troublesome.

Projects, labs, experiments and written assignments are balanced with quizzes and tests so that students have multiple ways they can show me what they've learned.
